Other CT towns have been faced with seemingly incredible initial estimates for the repair of simple bridges such as the CCR bridge. In some cases the ultimate price seems to go down if estimating efforts are re-doubled a couple of times.
In the end how much can a couple of factory made rectangular concrete pipe sections, some fill, guard rails and 30ft of new road surface be worth?
Was the 600 thousand based upon multiple engineering estimates by multiple outside engineering firms?
might be that permitting costs could be expensive but I would get several bids for this work; lots of "hungry" companies out there....that would love the work
This bridge was identified as being a problem at least two if not three or four years ago. Why did the town not put it in the capital budget and go out to referendum back then before it became a safety issue. It could have been fixed before it became a daily hassle for people who use that road. This is another example of the PW department being asleep at the switch. We need some Council members with some guts to make town staff act more responsibly. THAT is what the voters need to decide this election cycle. Current Council just floats along like they are in la la land.

Well, it's got to be replaced before a car falls in.
Is it just me or does anyone else seem shocked by the price tag for this bridge? Who comes up with these numbers??
Fix it. It's not exactly a bridge to no where.

At least in its current state, it slows down traffic.

What!, $600,000.00? for a 20 foot bridge! That's $30,000.00 a foot. Are we sure the decimal point is in the right place?
I'm in the wrong business,
