Hayes wants a separate trial from Komisarjevsky

Superior Court Judge Roland Fasano heard arguments Thursday, but did not immediately rule on the state's request to combine the trials of Joshua Komisarjevsky and Steven Hayes to spare the victims' relatives and friends the ordeal of two trials...
In written arguments, Hayes' lawyer, Thomas Ullmann, called the prosecutor's request for a joint trial unprecedented and disturbing, because the victims are prominent and white. He said separate trials have been held in numerous similar cases.

If you're wondering what possible defense these two would put up, given they were caught red-handed at the scene, this is it: each will accuse the other of committing the actual murders, hoping to save his own skin.
Yet both are equally guilty of murder regardless of who actually strangled and set the victims on fire, under the principle of joint venture.
The defendants' best shot is in separate trials where each can try to avoid being found guilty by joint venture.
Now watch them squirm to avoid the death penalty, hoping to receive a sentence of life in prison.
Note to the state attorney: We the People want the death penalty and no plea bargains. They are BOTH guilty of murder, and the evidence is irrefutable.
As long as they both get the death penalty....I will be satisfied. Sorry Representative Esty..I can't believe I ever voted for you and you then voted against the death penalty as a representative of the Cheshire people.
