WRA on Ron Paul meetups

Anybody see the WRA today?

Front page, above the fold... a huge photo of... Ron Paul! (by Gary Gentile) That's the sort of "advertising" that could have possibly put Ron Paul into contention. Unfortunately, it probably needed to have happened six months ago. Nonetheless, I was thrilled to see such good press for him, as well as the actual topic of the story... the meetup website that has enabled Dr. Paul's supporters to build a real life, nationwide, grassroots campaign. The article states:

Paul is an obstetrician who is staunchly anti-abortion. His non-interventionist foreign policy has won fans who cite his vote against authorizing the Iraq war. Paul opposed the Patriot Act and is against gun control. His libertarian views also include abolishing the Federal Reserve system and eliminating the income tax.

Around the state, Paul supporters gather in groups known as "meet ups," like the one that gets together every Thursday at the Food Shop restaurant in Litchfield.

Personally, I find it somewhat amusing whenever I see another MSM (Main Stream Media) article about Ron Paul only having support "on the internet." That's absolutely absurd. Just today, we had a meetup at the Civic Center. We were holding a mini-rally (a dozen or so people) for RP and having lots of people asking "Who is Ron Paul?" So while he's not about to win... this notion that his campaign is basically "an internet campaign" is just plain wrong. Besides... my goal now is simply to send a message to House Minority Leader John Boehner and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell about governing responsibly. And just today I got my first email from Dr. Paul asking for a donation to his Congressional reelection campaign. So I take that as a sign that he's being realistic about his chances in the GOP primary, as well as his chances in running 3rd party.
And a quick reminder on the other campaigns... McCain is at Sacred Heart tomorrow and Obama and Clinton will both be in CT on Monday. So continuing the tradition of the Lamont/Lieberman matchup in Aug '06 and the winning challenges of Congressmen Chris Murphy and Joe Courtney in Nov '06... The Nutmeg State is still of great interest to the power brokers of the Democratic party.
