Courant on Amann's run

I've mentioned CTs Speaker of the House Jim Amann a few times recently, in relation to his "discretionary" funds (a.k.a. "slush funds). So for those of you who don't know much about him, he recently announced his intention to run for Governor in 2010. But the Courant gives a more probing analysis on Speaker Amann:

We are underwhelmed. Mr. Amann has not demonstrated that he's governor material. Part charming schmoozer and part street fighter, the speaker is best known for insulting Gov. M. Jodi Rell (last year he crossed the line by calling her "a very dishonorable human being" in a fight over a bonding package), for trying to shake down lobbyists to make donations to his favorite charity, and for telling bloggers that he would "crush any idiot" who would run against him for his legislative seat. Such low statesmanship Connecticut doesn't need.

In fairness though... we've done worse. My question is, how low are our standards?

He never says a positive thing.

Perhaps, but he certainly makes Hartford a lot more interesting to follow with that raspy voice that lets loose every time Gov. Rell pulls the rug out from underneath him!

Does he really think he can be governor??
He should have stepped down from Speaker last year when he had to face the State Ethics Committee for getting lobbyists to donate to his chairty that was paying him a salary. They might as well have skipped the middle man and put the money in his pocket.
Does he think this won't be brought up in a campaign?
Lets see which "idiot" will beat him!
