A great way to spend the money would be a town wide study and assessment on the Barite Mines.

Fix the ugly little secret that has and will plague the town for many years to come.

Put it in the rainy day fund. Cheshire will need a lot of money to pay for the northend sprawl infrastructure and the cost of educating all the mall kids.

I think that you should put the money toward field improvements at the high school.

Anonymous said...

Put the money into education and our buildings
Put some towards the sewers
Put the rest into the surplus

Some should go to the infrastructure i.e. roads, buildings. The largest assests(monetarily speaking) of any Town are the roads and buildings, yet they don't get the funding needed. Have you noticed the condition of the roads in Town lately?

It should go back to the taxpayers. We were overtaxed two years in a row. Stop making excuses and tax us fairly.

Anonymous said...

It should go to education, we have underfunded it for years.

Anonymous said...

7:36PM I agree it should go back to the taxpayers!!!

Anonymous said...

It should go to the schools as there was a gap there where the Rep did that zero budget thing and we have been playing catchup ever since. Well at least the Dem majority made it so good that orsini and schrumm are leaving
i heard they are leaving because they know they could never win re-election ag. the majority and are now walking with their tails between their legs
Bitter and angry will never work

Give it to the board of education-we finally have something extra and we need to make our schools a better place
Do it now please Tim-we are counting on you

Salt it away. Let's take our time on what would be a prudent use for the money and wait to be sure the real estate crash doesn;t put the state budget in a huge hole next year causing our state aid to get cut

Anonymous said...

Give it back to the taxpayers. The state has not funded education but the town has. Our education budget is more than 70% of the total town budget ($60 million). Cheshire has done a great job of funding education. As far as the zero budget is concerned we lost nothing that year not one teacher - give me a break! It was done that year because the Council knew with reevaluation the taxpayers could not handle the increases.

ya can't defend the zero budget year
That is why shrumm and orsini are not running
they tried to make a move and it put the big backfire on them
Tim voted for it that year too
we don't and won't forget

Anon 7:38 There was never a zero budget year. They took the money from "medical trust fund". Pay attention to the budget process and you will see that the BOE budget is never ever really cut.... Education is very important and the town does a good job of providing the resources and money... Don't blame the councilmen, blame the State. They only give us 8-9 M.

Your a mean nasty person. Attacking two terrific Council persons, who have fought for the taxpayers.

Your Democratic majority approved the Northend Sprawl without any thought of what the enviromental or monetary costs will be. You must be a supporter of the local developers whose only thought is making money at our expense. eCheshire in

The two Dave's did a great job. They were reelected after the so called zero budget and would be again. To say their leaving because of that year is silly. Why is Visconti leaving? What's her reason? She didn't vote for the zero budget. Maybe they got tired of all the name calling they had to endure from idiots. They volunteered for this job and put a great deal of time into it.

Go on now
See ya later boys
Ya got run out
Ya know ya can't beat anyone
Step aside
Big train comiiiing down the tracks
Dave and Dave have been discredited

Dave and Dave discredited?
The zero budget year was before the last election and both Daves got reelected.
The zero budget resulted in NO ...zero...zip ...nada layoffs despite the anguished cries of the Education Industry here in Cheshire.
If you want to look for people who were discredited....ask the Educators who were looking for $3 million more in that year and were able to run the system with NO increase. What would they have done with the 3 mil? Did anyone ever ask THAT question?
The zero budget year came about for one reason and one reason only: the revaluation was causing the average homeowners tax bill to go up by an average of 11% and Repub's had enough cajones to side with the citizens and not the town and education bureaucrats. The town manager sucked it up and did just fine with the zero budget. The education weenies are still whining about it four years later.
Get real folks. If you want wimps as community leaders re-elect the Dems who couldn't lead a cub scout troop out of a phone booth. The Council is loosing some veterans who could make tough decisions.....and lead.

Thanks Dave, by the way you were a failure as a councilman because you always failed to get anything done!

If anyone has questions about the zero budget read the editorial by Masi (Board of Ed) in the Herald this week. Even he has to admit there has never been a year when the school budget was not funded. Florio always gets what he wants even when his budget requests are cut (has anyone ever asked how). The budget requests are loaded with wiggle room. The council has known this for years and the year of the so-called zero increase was the first time the council has ever called him on it. 3:47PM I agree about the whining and wimps.

If things were so tough that year how come the town side budet got an increase and the board of ed did not>

Anonymous said...

The BOE did get an increase that year $250,000.

Anonymous said...

I think it was more like $234,000 that they got that year. No big difference though considering their budget is well over 50 million. They still were able to purchase ping pong tables and $1000 principal desks.

11:08 "I think you should put the money toward field improvements at the high school."

So you want artificial turf?? Do some research. Along with hearing this on the news recently, I just read an article that says this new artificial turf releases gasses of 4 volatile chemicals: benzothiazole, n-hexadecane, (t-octyl) phenol, and butylated hydroxyanizole. The first three cause irritation to the skin and eyes and the fourth is a toxic carcinogen.

Why even take a chance of exposing our kids to these chemicals?

Study done in Europe with crushed tires from East Germany, the infills in the US have been approved by the EPA and the FDA. Get your facts stright or that doesn't matter.

Anonymous said...

The taxes were paid by ALL taxpayers and thus should be given back to ALL taxpayers. Fields at the high school only benefit a very few. Let's be fair and give the money to those who paid.

Anonymous said...

ok so anyone who has kids who use the fields don't pay taxes but out of town folks who use the trail do?
More would use the field
it is proven

Anonymous said...

Who uses what doesn't matter. The taxes should be returned to the taxpayers - only fair way to do it.

Anonymous said...

9:26 "Get your facts stright or that doesn't matter."

What do you know? You can't even spell.

Anonymous said...

Cheshire just lost to Hamden. We don't need the turf - it wouldn't matter - waste of money.

Give the money back to the taxpayers and let them do what they want with it.

Anonymous said...

Turf now.

Anonymous said...

The voters should decide, let the voters decide if turf is needed.

Anonymous said...

Too late for this year, I am sure about that. Maybe WS will pay for it.

Anonymous said...

You know there's way too much waste when a councilor thinks seriously about converting your hard earned money into turf. It's a dispicable waste of resources and shameful it gets any attention at all.
As for the dopes that think the Daves are somehow leaving because he/she had anything to do with I suggest they irrigate their navel...the only thing they can probably do effectively.

Anonymous said...

"Let the voters decide if turf is needed."

Turf is a "want" not a "need."

And I agree with 10:12 - It's a dispicible waste of tax dollars.

With all the recent news on the possible dangers of turf, it would be irresponsible for any (council) person or coach to continue to push for this.

Anonymous said...

A more wasteful than the linear trail? I think that the votes should decide, not crazy people on this blog.

Anonymous said...

There are many residents that use the linear trail - many more than the football field at the high school - let's get serious.
