Open forum 9/20

Lawmakers were back at the state Capitol today to vote on a two-year bonding package (WRA). Anyone know what happened with this? I'm pretty sure the turf was included in it. And did Blumenthal call for a ban on new turf installations? I know somebody recently raised health concerns about artificial turf.

Republicans have failed in their attempt to broaden the agenda for a special legislative session to bring up bills related to the July killings of a Cheshire family. The Democrat-controlled Senate defeated the proposal on a 21-13 party-line vote, according to an Associated Press report (WRA)... and on a related topic, two of the people leading the charge for the 3 Strikes law (Marilyn & Joe Bartoli) will be hosting a GOP fundraiser next Tuesday from 5-7pm at the house (754 Devonwood Drive).

Here is the Herald's take on the Inland Wetlands meeting (by Josh Morgan).

Down to a 1.5 game lead... the Sox' collapse continues.

Some question was made that there may not be enough parking and that it did not look like these developers are proposing the same number of spaces that would be required in the rest Cheshire.

It was then pointed out that the special zone did not have to conform to the parking space rules used for the rest of the town as long as P&Z approves fewer.

Well isn't that nice. This is just another of example of how the developers wrote all the rules that they wanted and the P&Z simply stamped them approved. The town of Cheshire was not represented.

From The Underground Town Hall

September 19th, 2007 by Cindy Kleist

Now many of you have contacted me on the “Underground” channels asking me to become a write-in candidate for the Town Council.

Well, as you know, I did attend the GOP caucus in August with the hopes that I would be nominated to run for the Town Council. Unfortunately, that never happened. When I attended the caucus, some people looked at me sort of funny. Actually to be honest, I felt out of place being there because I am a liberal person on many issues.

But one issue I am staunch about is accountability by government to the people and open and honesty. Many people are on the blog-website bandwagon now, but they have me to thank because frankly, I started all of this “awareness” several years ago when I ran shows about town issues on the Cox Public Access.

I called the Registrar of Voters and they told me I had to contact the Town Clerk’s office. But in order to be a write-in candidate, I have to be on the “ballot” so to speak and I believe I have until Oct. 23 to do this.

I will give this serious consideration over the weekend. I hope all of you will support me because as you know, I may speak my mind, but I am honest and fair.

I call it like it is and I discuss ALL issues, but I give praise and criticism when it is deserving. As I have said before on earlier posts, this will be a big undertaking and I am sure a lot of people connected to the town will be talking their mush, but that is how it is. Let’s get people in our Town Government that have a pulse and not act like the Night of the Living Dead please!!!

the turf is dead, the turf is dead!!!!

The Governor has vetoed the bonding, the Attorney General is investigating, studies warn of the environmental and public health hazzards.

Let's not expose our kids to toxic fumes! Thank you Gov. Rell, AG Blumenthal, and all those who are helping derail this costly public health threat.

The NHR has a front page story of Justen Kasperzyk, another crooked cop, 34 years old, who was fired, applies for a disability pension and gets $41,000 a year, most of which is tax free. He'll probably also get health care and the pension most likely has COLA, cost of living adjustment so it will be adjusted for inflation as the years go by. This could end up costing 3-4 million.

What's wrong with government to allow such lucrative benefits even when the person is not a crook? It's insanity.

The AG should investigate Mr. Toxic Fumes too (1:32, 10:37). Why is he so obsessed with artificial turf? Does he have some interest in a contract? Is he "bitter and angry" at someone, or is he just a caveMAn ?

The turf is not going to happen especially after hearing Rell on the debt of the state. I have no idea why we are discussing this issue - talk about something pertinent.

I believe the bonding package is $3.1Billion. And Gov. Rell wants a limit of $1.25Billion.

Furthermore, I believe the turf is included in school construction... which is $1.3Billion of the $3.1Billion.

I do have concerns about the health risks... I saw an opinion piece about it in last week's Sunday NYTimes. It mentioned that Blumenthal has pledged $200,000 of state money to investigate the health concerns.

If there is ANY chance of a health risk involved with the turf it should not be considered. Can we really risk the health of our children somewhere down the road. How many times do we hear something is OK only to be informed later that it is dangerous. We have had a grass field since the high school was built and it will be fine for the future.

The town has no say on what goes on at the NE period. Thank you Town Council and P&Z for this. We have no Zoning from what I can see. November election are around the corner, so keep this in mind when you vote..

There never was any turf, it was never coming. People that thought were mistaken. It is also wrong to say that there is a health risk with turf.

I am sure that the hearing start on the North End tonight, so to say you have no input is wrong also, come out tonight and speak your mind.
