Turf sacked

Seymour residents rejected the idea of using potential town budget surpluses to build an $825,000 turf field (WRA, by Jodie Mozdzer). With a margin similar to the rejection of Cheshire's linear park, Seymour residents opposed spending property tax dollars on turf, 673 - 317. Statewide, I'm guessing that people are rejecting these projects because taxes are a real concern for people.

Good for Seymour!

Surprised that there aren't those in Cheshire asking the TC to use our surplus for turf! That may be next!
Glad the people in Seymour were smart enough not to let it happen there.

One of the leaders of the anit-turf movement was a teacher/aide that had been layed off. Her question was simple, you lay off staff but want to install turf.

The tricks are being played by the turf supportors. Do not maintain the existing field and then they show how bad it is. If it is bad then turf is the issue. To quote the Who "We won't be Fooled Again."

I can't wait for the turf ribbon cutting ceremony and we have great night for football and soccer and all the great events!!

Are you the same person that is going to the "LIfe style center" opening? Busy person. Sharpen the big scissors. By the way are we going to expand the "community" field? The last time I looked soccer fields are wider and longer. More $$$$.
I love soccer and football played on GRASS.. Keep the fields in good shape. They will last a lifetime.

It will never happen. The state isn't giving out candy anymore and Cheshire will never approve the expenditure. Forget It!

I love the in Cheshire
It makes me want to sing

People don't see it but the turf is a huge money saver-I am for it and will support it all the way

Where is the turf a big money saver?? It will cost $1M initially and it has to be replaced every 10 years or so. I don't care how many grass fields have to be upkept or reseeded it's never going to cost as much as turf. The only way we can get this is if the state gives us $500,000 to start which they aren't going to do. This is a dead deal.

According to the Athletic Director the cost to maintain the current grass football field is $16,000 per year. If the cost to maintain the proposed turf field was $0 dollars we would save %16,000 per year. If the turf field costs $850,000 and we divide the best case savings of $16,000 we get a payback of 53 years. With a projected lifetime use of 10 years we would save $160,000 before we had to spend another $850,000 for another field. Makes no sense to me.

I know. It seems these people just got to have it no matter what the cost. They always come up with reasons to justify it!!!! Spoiled ?????

I learn to play Tennis on clay courts a long time ago. Then the newer surfaces came along(easier to maintain). My feet-their choice was clay. It was cooler and less stressful on my legs and body. I could play longer and not feel my feet burning etc. I Have heard of many football injuries caused by turf fields. I played a little football on grass but never on turf(not yet invented). Has any thought been given to this. I know what my choice would be.
