Flooding
Was hoping to do some posts tonight, but as many of you are probably currently experiencing... my basement is flooding... and faster than I can wet-vac it. So doubt I'll have any time to post much of anything tonight. Sorry. Later this week though, I do have an interesting video post on the sewers (compliments Chris Pierpont of Quinnipiac University).

Can you get help from FEMA?
On second thought, you don't want their "help"!
You should have called the Cheshire Fire Dept. It appears they have pumped out over 80 homes in the past few days. They even went to Superior rental and rented pumps. No ask me what was the charge to do this... it was zero dollars. The Fire Laddies increased their amount of calls with the intent to use this as leverage to have a paid fire dept.
When in fact if people want their basements pumped out they would gladly pay for it. But why pay when it will be done for free. The fire dept never used to pump out basements.. until we got a new chief. What is the hidden agenda here?
Have no issue in allowing the fire boys to pump out the water, at least you know they would do a wonderful job and correctly. The issue is residents should pay for the service.
