NHR on WiLi

Here's the NHRs take on the library going wireless (by Luther Turmelle). Depending on cost, I think this could be a great thing.

And separately, I'm back from Washington. I had a fantastic time... which btw, if you're curious... while I went in the name of the town (the organizers wanted local officials), I paid for everything. I'll try to draft some bullet point ideas this weekend on how Cheshire may be able to use some more renewable energy options in the not-so-distant future... although I've already mentioned a lot of the general stuff already.

Alright... it's late. I'm going to bed... but if you're interested in the Council agenda for next Tuesday... I'll try to post it by tomorrow night, if I have it.

What's the story on why the Dems want to open the Charter Revision.

I know that if it is opened for any reason, anything in it can be changed. After what happened on the Northend, I don't trust the Dems with anything. They have the majority and vote as a block, and therefore can pass anything they want and deny anything they are against.

E. Estey said at the meeting that she feels bad for all the independents that are shut out of serving on local commissions and such. This would be her reason for making a change.

I just don't buy her reason as I think she is as partisan as they come and since the Dems are in control they can now appoint their own people who will vote in a block according to their party line. I think her real reason is to further her politial ambitions when she runs for state office. Wouldn't it be nice to use this to convince independent voters that she really supports them.

So, now she has already made her point and even if the Charter Revision is not opened, she will be able to tell the independents that she works for them and she could blame the Republicans who vote against opening the charter.

I'm certain the Dems have a number of changes they would like to make, and I'm afraid that they would be making changes that help them stay in power or that help their special interest.

I am all for making the Tree Warden separate from the Public Works Director. Diane Visconti

If Mrs. Esty read the charter she would find out that any town resident can be "appointed" to a board or commission. If one chooses to appoint only D's or R's and no I's or U's who's to blame?
As far as the "Tree Warden" you don't need to take apart the entire engine to replace a spark plug.

The Charter Revision has been referred to the Ordinance Committee to determine if there are reasons to open it.

Let's see, there are 2 D's and one R on the committee.

D Elizabeth Esty*
D Michael Ecke
R Tim Slocum

Two to one, hmmmm.. Looks like they'll find reason enough.

Hold on to your seats folks, we may be going for another shenanigan ride.
