Walmart's $4 drugs

Walmart announced they'll rollout their $4 prescription drug plan in CT today. It will cover 26 conditions. (AP) And if I have the story right this time, this is not a copay. It's just $4 for your prescription. The AP story also mentions that both Target and BJs are rolling out similar programs.

The other key info is that it rperesents almost half the prescriptions WalMart fills but it's not clear if that's by volume or cost but probabaly volume. Not bad all around.

Yeah, this is fantastic. It's the free market proving it can make change.

I wonder how this impacts Chris Murphy's proposal to overhaul Part D. Anyone have any idea?

Chris Murphy is suggesting that the government, who pays for part D, can negotiate prices with suppliers the same way they do for submarines, toilet and hammers. The only impact this will have is that some folks may decide to buy their drugs directly from WalMart because the price will be cheaper than Medicare D.

Does Part D have a copay? If so, is it more than $4?
