Chief Cruess - thank you for your service

Cheshire Police Chief Michael Cruess is retiring. I thank him for his 30 years of service.

Excerpted from the Chief's emailed statement:

The Town of Cheshire gave me an opportunity as a young man in 1980 to become a member of the Cheshire Police Department. I was very fortunate to have had the opportunity to be involved in just about every aspect of the Police Department during my 30 years.... When I started this career I planned on staying for 30 years. It is now 30 years and I just feel that it’s time to leave.

And here's the take from the NHR, MRJ and WRA.

What will the plan be for his replacement?
Do we want to look at outsiders to bring new ideas to our force? Flip side is employee moral will not be helped as we cut off the top rung of the ladder.

Do we want to promote people that have been exposed to the so-called misery of the Cruess regime? We could not guarantee that anything would be better.

Do we want to consider a total overhaul of our force and realign divisions and personel into better work groups? Not suggesting firing officers but mearly putting the best people in the right spots.

We have alot of choices to make and the clock is now ticking.

Forgot something:

Thank you Chief Cruess for always doing your best over the last 30 years. Enjoy your retirement.

Next, will his boss be resigning too?

7:03... I request you directly address your concern with each of the other eight Council members. Perhaps you could email each of us? Or speak up during "public communications" at the July 13 Council meeting? Or stop us when you see us around town... but be sure to get it on video!

Sad thing to me is that I think most Council members still want to avoid this discussion... just like they wanted to avoid the discussion about a reasonable third option for the pool -- summer-only.

The other eight Council members are adults who want to have adult conversations, Tim.
You are acting like a spoiled child with one agenda: fire the Town manager.
Get over it. You are starting to sound lame.

Tim is not the only TC member who thinks it's time for a change in management. 1:49 can characterize Tim as childish, but he and other TC members have legitimate concerns.

How do you know?

because I talked with two other TC members who candidly said this. It's not for me to quote them by name, but anyone can ask any TC member their thoughts on this.

My goal is good government. I'm tired of the cronyism and corporatism that resides in town hall. Even Councilman Schrumm seemed to touch on this reality when he wrote this opinion piece in the Herald in July 2009.

You left out the 'S' word from your short list of "cronyism and corporatism." I'd add STUPIDITY to the list too.
