Rally for schools' funding
Anyone attend the school budget rally tonight? I'm wondering if there were any signs taking specific Council members to task? Also kinda wondering if there were any funny signs?
Regardless of bent, I always appreciate the humorous signs:

I saw a few kids.....no parents.
I guess people are not drinking the union cool aid any more.
I find it quite amusing that people on the FB page to "Savew Cheshire Schools" keep sending people to this log. DO they think Tim is the enemy?
Not sure about the meeting but what are these picketors in front of town hall I'm hearing about carrying signs saying "Save the school, not the pool." Don't they know the pool will end up at referendum and voters will ultimately decide what happens with it? The pool and the school are two different topics that have nothing to do with each other.

...And the Education budget helps subsidize the pool with "revenue" from its budget based on the HS swim teams use of the pool going to the pool budget. I guess all the students are not in favor of the swim team's use of the pool.
Did anyone notice the full page ad in the Herald paid for by the teachers union?
They say "Cheshire ranks in the top 13% in the ability to support quality education." They mean..."pay up losers"
They cite "your child is allocated $1,565 less than the state average"
Allocated by whom...you me or the state of CT.
They say "Cheshire ranks 143 out of 166 towns in per pupil spending."
I say, GREAT!, keep up the good work...this proves more money won't result in a better output.

"WE, THE CHESHIRE TEACHERS UNION WLECOMES AN OPPORTUNITY TO SUPPORT OUR SCHOOLS, MAINTAIN CLASS SIZES, PREVENT LAYOFFS AND SHARE IN THE SACRIFICE, HEREBY OFFER TO TAKE OUR 4.4% INCREASE AND SPREAD IT OVER THE NEXT TWO YEARS. THIS CUT IN OUR PAY SHOWS OUR COMMITMENT TO THE KIDS, PARENTS AND OUR EMPLOYER, THE RESIDENTS OF CHESHIRE.
Would you have the nerve to walk into your bosses office and ask for a 4 1/2% raise each year over the next three years(if you have a boss)??? What do you think the answer would be? The door might hit your backside on the way out. We would not be discussing this now if the increase was lower. Give us a break and stop crying the BOE is getting plenty. Think about this before you go before the whole Town an complain. The TC members who voted in favor of this increase are no longer in office, does that tell you something?
Tim, I asked before and am hoping you can answer, is the BOE increase based only on the new contract? If the negotiated raise was cut in, lets say half, would that balance the budget and would the BOE need no increase? Is it all increased wages or do benefits, pensions, technology, energy costs, the bus contract, etc also work to increase the budget? How much less would be needed with less of a raise? What would the teachers need to give up in order for there to be no additional money needed over last years budget?
1:16... based on current figures, the 4.4% raise is around $1,000,000. Cut the raise to 2.2% and you save half a million bucks.
As for the rest of your questions, I simply don't have the time to get into it. I trust though that you can get a copy of the BOE budget at Humiston. And I hope you do, so you can find the answers you're looking for.
