also check into the practice of PW's employees spending all day at certain Town beauty spots(corner of Maple Ave and Rt 10..at both ends of Maple Ave)...mowing and clipping and pruning....a landscape company would be cheaper...and they would be in and out of there in 1/2 hour....I wonder how much cheaper it would be to contract out all the town mowing?
They are actually Park & Rec employees at those locations, and Cook Hill too.
Leave Fitzsimmons alone...he is a terrific public employee. And I'm not his mother either.
Ann has alot to learn
She asks questions that have an answer that leads no where
no where
try again
Some of the last TC members asked crazy questions and they were there for a couple of terms. Give her a break. She does a good job and is learning. Keep it up Girl...
I agree whoever does the work on the three areas does a great job. They are seen by many in town as well as many visiting. They are great to look at and I always remark on how neet the lawn is cut to my wife. Keep it up.
But this crew is neglecting other properties they are suppose to maintain. They constantly skip the fire houses and the police department. The "parklets" shouldn't take more than a day combined but the crew spends a day at each. Totally unacceptable!
Park and rec and the BOE grounds crew should fall under public works. We can cut down on the amount of mechanics at each, cut the number of vehicles total, cut the total amount of machinery owned and close out multiple accounts at distributors. We have 3 seperate departments that cut grass, plow snow, and do construction.
Consolidate to save!
The maintenance for the parklet at the corner of Maple/Highland is from a trust established by the old Peck Lane Sportsman Club. 8:41 is corrrect--(3) departments to do the same job. TC always sites the unions as the reason nothing can be done...
Actually, we could move the janitors and custodians from the schools over to public works as well. Both depts. have building maintenance personel. Why not have them work together?
Tim, why not propose looking into these ideas. There could be some serious cash savings with machinery reduction (auction excess off), quicker job completion, no overtime, streamline material costs...
