Fort Trumbull falling

"...nor shall private property be taken for public use without just compensation."

- U.S. Constitution, The Bill of Rights, Amendment V

I believe it was a May 31 deadline that was set for finding a resolution to, perhaps, the best known court case (New London Day, by Elaine Stoll) of the past few years... the New London eminent domain case.

Obviously, I don't know the details of this "settlement," but I think that if these people wanted to settle, they would've settled a long time ago. Herego, this isn't really a settlement.

I hope the remaining four homeowners carry on the struggle. It just makes absolutely no sense to me how government can step in and take away your land for private use.

I am waiting for the word on when the people will rise up and flood the city with thousands of people to delay the evictions. Its not just their properties, its their homes.

With the passing of Mrs. Betty Ives, and her only heirs living on the West coast, the future of the 157 acre Ives Farm on Cheshire St is in doubt. Any chance the Land Trust will buy it? If not, plan on 300 homes going in; 600 children into the school system. Here would be a good use of eminent domain with compensation to her heirs.

We are facing a double whammy because Bishop's Farm is closed and in decrepit condition. We could see close to a thousand McMansions in the NE part of town if both tracts are developed!!!!

Will our local leaders act or are we just going to blame each other for not building a proper pool a decade ago or vent uselessly about a taking in another town?

Hey, how about taking some homes on Weiss Rd by eminient domain so the town can enlarge the parking lot at MacNamara?

Haven't seen the article in the Waterbury paper myself but was told that Mrs. Ives has willed her farm as open space. If true, wonderful news for the town!
