The Wall that Heals opening ceremony

The opening ceremony for The Wall that Heals was great.

Medal of Honor recipient Barney Barnum spoke along with several others, including my dad who was a nuclear weapons officer in Vietnam... and a CHS student who read his, in my opinion, very powerful essay which described his thoughts if he was to be drafted when he turns 18... and his definition of bravery. I thought it was moving.

Barney Barnum's Medal of Honor citation was read... by one of Ralph Zingarella's students.

The ceremony was great and, of course, I strongly encourage you to visit The Wall that Heals.

Barney Barnum gave an inspirational accounting of the war in Vietnem, the nation's sad lack of support for the troops and the accounts by lliberals, the media and Hollywood to reaarange many of the facts about the conflict.

He urged us to support the war on terror that is being played out today and cautioned us us against the same forces that are alive and well in the US attempting to undermine our military and its important mission on our behalf.

It was heartening for me to hear this. I am sure there were many in the audience that agreed but certainly there had to be as many that did not. And for that I believe he earned another "Gold Star" for painting the stark reality of war and the price of liberty.

Thank you Barney Barnum. Thank you to all of the vets that attended last night. Thank you to each of the soldiers who laid down their lives for our freedom and may God continue to bless your families for your ultimate sacrifice.

"accounts by lliberals, the media and Hollywood to reaarange many of the facts about the conflict."

Tim. This is advice from a friend. If you spend some time listening to what actual liberals say, you will realize how crazy your statement sounds.

You spend too much time listening to far right hosts that argue two sides of the story, their own and their own version of the liberal argument. "liberals on the other hand say..." "as opposed to liberals who want to..." "liberals would have you..." Spend ten minutes a day reading (not even headline skimming) the huff post or the nation until you get a sense for what liberals actually value.

Think of it this way, I heard three liberal talk show hosts go on at length today about how little concern people on the right have for soldiers and how little they care about the direction of the country. Do people on the right throw their children to the wolves just to make a buck? No. But, that's what many liberals believe. Think about what your told. Maybe you have no idea what the liberals actually assert...

We all love our children, community, veterans, our country... we all have the same goals, we just don't agree about how to get there.

Thinking people disagree about Iraq, the war on terror, etc. They have every right to disagree. The far left and far right you speak of often gets most of the attention. I think most Americans want us to succeed. I remain very critical of what many would identify as the main stream view..advanvanced by a biased "traditional media" and how can I leave out Sens. Harry Reid, Chuck Schummer, Speaker Nancy Pelosi, candidate John Edwards. I think they just have it all wrong. I think they are hijackers of the truth and I feel their arguments are more political than ideological and for that I feel I must applaud when their versions of the truth are countered by the ordinary folks out there. (Certainly Barney Barnum is extraordinary)

Thank you for counting me among your friends as I would no doubt feel the same way about you. Different perspectives do not have to create wars of words. You should know my views on this vary from some of my family members. That is just the way it goes here in this great place we call America.
