The cell tower at the sewer plant is a no-brainer - as long as police, fire and PW radio antennae can be located at the very top of the tower if it would improve their reception.
Those folks living near the proposed tower site are not all fans of yet another ugly thing sticking up out of the trees in a residential neighborhood. To quote the WR "The tower would have to be at least 150 feet high to meet the company's cell phone coverage objectives."
Not a peep from the interviewed town officials concerning whether or not some or all those residents living nearby just might think it will look so bad it shouldn't go in at all in that location.
The town may love the possible additional revenue but just how happy will all the home owners near by actually be about this?
I agree - no brainer. The adjacent property owners will have to deal with it.
Did I hear this correctly--the homeowners who live near the SEWER plant are upset about a cell phone tower? What's wrong with that picture?
A 15 story building poking out from behind a dense screen of foliage in a large area of very expensive and desirable housing. Those people will not like the view of a 15 story facility. The existing sewer plant is hard to see.
A 15 story facility right in the middle of residential neigborhoods. Kind of makes one question if zoning really does exist.
The Connecticut Siting Council decide this and they trump local zoning regs.
They now build cell towers to look like giant evergreen trees. Some look pretty convincing.
If you want cell phones and more wireless "stuff" you have to put up with towers in somebody's back yard.
Open forum? Well, I have this burning sensation between my toes. It started ever since I went swimming in the town pool on Saturday. Suggestions?
We need another drugstore like we need another Town Manager.
If a tower is allowed, the town should get an annual rental as well as being allowed to put up any antenae that they want.
Let's stop giving things away. Llet's start being smart with our resources.
And while we're at it, the twon should be charging new development with a sewage plant capacity charge. Why do homeowners have to pay for their own septic tanks and pay additional taxes to support the sewage system, only to have it given away. The local developers have been taking advantage of the Cheshire residents too long. Other towns charge for capacity, why doesn't Cheshire?
A large tower at the Park is a bad idea which will negatively impact nearby residents as well as the many people using the park.
It is hard to believe that in an area zoned for 1/2 acre + housing that the installation and operating expenses of a 150 ft tower would have any payback.
The TC should find out just what areas the proposed tower will really serve. Maybe AT&T should make a deal for a tower with Whole Foods which is zoned for large scale commercial use in the first place. Town revenues might be a bit less but home owners overall would be better off.
How would a tower negatively impact the people at the park. I can think of a few years of kids soccer down there where we could have used a little shade....
I can't believe that the state siting commission or whatever they are called, simple get a call from a corporation and then they look around for a place for them to put a tower. I'm sure At&T worked this out with someone in town to use town property and I would question what that person is getting from AT&T.
