The Enlightenment

Is this a claim to be living in the 18th century?? lol.

Seriously though, about the public hearings... that was Mike Ecke's idea and it was a good one... but as for the creative problem solving, I'm still waiting to hear the creative solutions for the pool and its energy budget.

Maybe some answers will be provided at next Wednesday's meeting between the Council and P&R? No word yet on when and where that meeting will occur, but I hope the Energy Commission gets invited. After all, the bubble (and its costly energy consumption) is more of a concern than the programs that are being provided. And it would be an ideal opportunity to ask the EC about how the town and pool could benefit from performance contracting and the possible construction of a permanent enclosure for the pool.

Perhaps the Dems ought to be more aware of the mercury dangers of these CFB's......you break a "twisty" bulb and DEP might have to make you spend thousands on clean-up... is that our future under the Cheshire Dems?

Great ad-energy saving light
Great leadership
Too bad rep can't even get their message out-except being anti north end

The amount of mercury in a compact fluorescent bulb (CFB) is about 5 mg, which would cover the tip of a ballpoint pen. In comparison, mercury thermometers contain about 500 mg of mercury. In addition, CFBs use less energy that incandescent bulbs, and because coal power plants emit mercury, the total mercury emission of a CFB is less than an incandescent bulb. Whether CFBs are an effective campaign image is debatable, but their effectiveness in lowering energy consumption and their benefit to the environment is real.

perhaps you ought to ask the woman in ME who had to spend all that $$$ when the local DEP found out she broke that "tip of s pen" lightbulb

I suspect "emma" is not on the autistic spectrum or you might be a bit less trusting of the "trace amount of mercury aren't harmful" drill the "experts" are selling

In any event CFB's are already old technology. LED bulbs without mercury will be on the market in a couple of years with less energy consumption and without mercury

"Public meetings when they matter." How about the meeting about the change to our plan and consevation? It was never televised. I guess the D's thought it didn't matter. Thank you for for making that great decision.

8:31 PM,

There is absolutely no scientific support for a link between thimerosal in vaccines and autism in children. I gather you prefer those offering irrational fears over scientific experts.

I'll admit the studies don't prove a specific link, but are you seriously arguing it made any sense to put mercury in a vaccine?

Perhaps you'd best read up on the term "mad hatter" before you sound like a paid shill for Big Pharma

You need to distinguish mercury compounds. Methyl mercury is the known neurotoxin, whereas thimerosal is ethyl mercury. Thimerosal is significantly less toxic than methyl mercury and has no known biological effects at the amounts used in vaccines. Vaccines need a preservative. The potential harm of thimerosal is much smaller than the risk of injecting infants with a vaccine contaminated with pathogenic bacteria or fungi. Are there safer and more effective preservatives? Perhaps, but one must consider the chemistry and biological effects of thimerosal and all potential preservatives to make that decision.

and the "worse" mercury is in the bulbs, right?

I suppose one is better off consuming ethyl alcohol than methyl alcohol but I still wouldn't suggest giving toddlers Jack Daniels

Getting back to the thermometers...There is a heck of a lot more light bulds getting screwed into sockets than getteg screwed into...

Enough about the light bulbs! How about all the toxins in the artificial turf that the sports fanatics want for our high school!

I wonder where the repulicans stand on turf? I am sure that they are aginst it! I would like to know?

Congratulations to the Cheshire High School girls swim team. Tonight they set a national record with their 235th consecutive victory. Their last loss was in 1986. I bet most of you were talking about the same crap twenty-one years ago.

Now you “adults” can go back to your silly, immature, and petty politics. You all make Cheshire proud, and keep up the good work!

I keep thinking of "low output" when I see that illustration of the bulb. Hows that for a mixed message democrat ad?

When Republicans stand on turf they get shin splints.

Too bad, I am not sure what I think about the turf.
