The new ballot

I understand that the above is an example of the front of the November ballot... notice that there is a space for "write-in" candidates.

And below is an example of the back:I'm not sure why the "open space" question (#1) for $1,000,000 doesn't mention the $250,000 that was appropriated three years ago. Only last year (and again this year) I asked if dollar amounts must be aggregated for items to go to referendum and was told that is the case... and that is shown quite clearly in question #3 where the sewers had a multi-year project aggregated.

To me, that additional $250,000 seems important because, unlike many other open space appropriations, this quarter million dollars was never approved by the voters. So I hope that this ballot gets amended between now and the election.

How does one "write in" a person? Can we get directions before voting day?

Anonymous said...

Why?

Anonymous said...

If a write-in candidate is at all credible, she should be informing the voters of the proper way to do it. If a write-in vote isn't done properly, it's not counted.

THIS IS CINDY KLEIST TALKING: I HAVE HAD VIDEOS ON HOW TO WRITE MY NAME IN. COLOR IN THE OVAL NEAR THE WRITE IN CATEGORY AND THEN WRITE MY NAME IN THE BOX.
I WIll Have another video and samples to hand out at the polling places

The term "credible candidate" and the name "Cindy Kleist" should never be used in the same sentence.

The woman has no credibility at all. She claims to be a candidate of the people and she won't even allow public comment on her blog. It's all Cindy, all ego, all the time.

Lou Murray said...

Do you read her blog? I think it is a service to the town. Irrespective of her point of view, she works hard to inform and motivate people.
WHAT HAVE YOU DONE FOR YOUR TOWN LATELY? (anonymous)?

Anonymous said...

Lou,

What have you ever done for your town?

Anonymous said...

Lou,

If you weren't such a knee-jerk reactionary (and took the time to read my post)you'd see that I say I've read her blog. She posted some campaign stuff for you on there; you mean to tell me you weren't aware that she doesn't allow comment from readers (unlike Tim).

What service does she provide to the town. Her ramblings are barely coherent and highly egocentric.
For that matter, what have you done for the town lately? Try getting elected to the council first (it's not as easy as it looks) and stop being such a windbag.

Instead of defending a woman (and her husband) who send anonymous letters through the mail to decent people just because they don't agree with the Kleist mantra, come up with some thoughts of your own. Don't believe me? Just ask the cops.. they'll tell you about Cindy's community spirit when it come to anonymous letters.

anonymous asks,
Lou,

What have you ever done for your town?

To which I answer,
In my honest opinion, not enough. Which is why I am doing what I am now. Maybe if more of us felt that way things would be better all around.

That being said,
Would it be possible to get an honest answer from anonymous?

And that is my last response to a "ghost" who hides behind anonymity.

Don't waste your time with the caveMAn.

When you make a good point all he can do is resort to name calling.

You have more important battles to fight.

Lou,

I've done lots of things for my community and while none of those things compares running for Town Council, I don't feel like Cheshire has somehow been short changed by my living here. So go ahead with your ego trip about running for Town Council and how it makes you a such a great asset to the community.

If you think you're so special for signing your posts, why did you even bother to respond to me in the first place. Besides, how do we really know it's really you posting? Perhaps it's your pomposity that gives you away.

Oh, by the way, love your informative section on the Town GOP web site! How about posting some of your positions on the issues insead of that lame virtual campaign button?

The GOP has a few decent people who have really done something for the community (Tim, Tom Ruocco, Jim Sima, Steve Carroll). But you're not fit to be on the same ticket with them when you run around defending loose cannons like Cindy Kleist.

What good points did Lou make? If defending somebody whom the local town committee didn't think was appropriate to run on their ticket for Town Council is your idea of a good point, then I know I'm trading ideas with an unarmed individual.

Cindy is running as write in because the two main political parties in town didn't want to be associated with her. And judging by Lou's blind, headlong rush to her defense, I'm wondering why the local GOP brain trust would want to be associated with him.

It seemed like Lou was defending her right to speak out more than he was defending her.

Would you prefer to silence everyone you do not agree with?

Anonymous said...

Anon 12:01 a.m.

I think she has every right to speak; that's what America's all about.
What I find laughable is that Lou (and you as well) are defending someone who doesn't allow others the right to speak (post) on her own blog.
Cindy's fine with free speech as long as it's coming from her mouth. But make the mistake of saying something she and Derf disagree with and you can count on being attacked by them and receiving one of their well-know anonymous letters.

I just got in from the TC meeting. This guy Lou is an idiot
So is Steve Carrol
So is Slocum
So is Schrumm
If you live in Wood Pond you would have to be out of your mind to vote for any of them.

12:28 AM

I got home around 10. Lou Murray and Steve Carroll were not present. I had gone to council chambers after the PZC meeting to see how the discussion on Strathmore Dam was going. It was lively as it should have been. Dave Schrumm voted no on the resolution along with Tom Ruocco.

I support the majority decision on this one...White, Hall, Esty, Ecke & Visconti.

Lou said, "...It looks to me like the developers have the Democrats in their back pockets...", bold statement, now are you including Tim and the Republican's on the P&Z? Do you have any evidence? Do you think making statements like this is the right way to go about getting elected? I am not sure that I want someone elected who will attack people that you have to work with.

Anonymous said...

Hey I think it is great that Lou is running. It reminds me of the old wrestling shows-someone has to go into the ring and get his ass kicked by Bruno Sanmartino. And in this election that would be Lou.

Anonymous said...

It appears to me that one person is doing all the "LOU" bashing. Could that person be worried that the "Shenanigan" councilwoman in the 1st district is in for a fight. Many Lou Murray signs have disappeared in the first district. Could the "SIGN BANDIT" be at it again? "Rub out opposition" is his motto. We all know who this person is....

Anonymous said...

I don't see David Schrumms name on the ballot, so why is someone on this blog always mentioning his name? Give it a break and say something worthwhile.

Anonymous said...

anon 12:28 I just finished watching the town council meeting on TV. If all the people you mentioned are idiots what do you call Matt Hall? He talks down to everyone.

Anonymous said...

If Cindy Kleist wants to run that is her right and it should be protected. Lou is only saying the same thing (good for him). All these posters (or maybe only one) who make fun of candidates should be ashamed of themselves. I also agree that Schrumm is not on the ballot and to repeatedly bash him is unwarranted.

I will not be "writing in" my vote for Candidate Kleist. If you will notice, while reading her page, she continually speaks about "her people", "her movement", her "anonymous information". Where are the people and where does this information come from. I want a candidate who is more than a mouth, I want one who has a mind (sane please) and does not haver personal agendas.
Kleist struggles to get her child to school (re: her page), without the help of the police whom she holds in such low regard. I am happy I did not have an emergency needing police response at that time. The police commission would be great for forcing the police to parent for all of us.
Its time for the Political posturing and bickering to end and have someone, anyone step to the forefront and lead for a change.
Kleist is not ready for the challenge.

There are a lot of special interests that don't like Cindy, because she has the guts to ask the hard questions. The Cheshire Herald never asks any hard questions and spoon feeds us the copy they are fed by realtors, developers and other special interests. It's pretty sad that we don't have a newspaper that digs to find the facts and treats it's readership as second class citizens.

The local special interests control Cheshire and are in total control of what news do or don't get.

Lou,

Do you seriously expect anyone to vote for you with all of your bizarre comments?

It is hard to believe that the Republican Party in Cheshire chose you and turned down Cindy Kleist.

I see the mudslinging is in full swing...how sad.

Cindy Kleist was hit by a car Wednesday night at Stop and Shop in Southington. Knock off the comments for at least a while to see if she makes it. Give her some credit and stop deleting this. People should know. Her family will be posting on her condition.

I would hope that everyone will stop and say a prayer for her fast recovery.

I think I will vote for all of the fine people on the B line. they have done a great job of putting together a awesome package of great services low taxes and have treated all with respect
I fear that the A line guys are just going to bring us back to the 0 budget days and the disrespectful days and the poor leadership days

Anonymous said...

The "zero" budget year ended up with the BOE having close to a million dollar supplus at the end of the year which was then transferred to the medical benefits (ie, slush) fund so the A guys were right all along, that the school system did not need an increase, in fact, could have survived just fine with a decrease. As far as disrespectful goes, the B guys have done their fair share. (Ask our town clerk among others about that.) And speaking of disrespectful, the negative comments on this blog about individual people should stop. We are all human and while we may disagree about things, we all seem to care about this town. These negative comments keep many qualified people from seeking public office and that is a shame. And I don't know about you, but my taxes are not low. Not even close. And they will only get worse.

Anonymous said...

Ok I get it let's spend all the money in the medical trust fund and when it runs out let's blame the lack of money on the fact that it was the board of ed's fault that the Schrumm/Orsini budget of 0 increase was good for the town
Good god man get real

I think it would be a great idea for all those people who blog about the medical trust fund to have a mandatory informational meeting regarding said trustfund. If anyone really looked into this they would soon find out that the medical trust fund is nothing more than a slush fund for Florio to play around with (and he does often). The trouble is we have the uninformed acting like know-it-alls. I would wager that these individuals have never attended a Board of Ed budget meeting in their lives. Florio always appropriates a said amount to be put into the medical trust fund but if you look at the actual amount put in he always pulls a fast one. This way he comes up with more money than he actually needs. Give the Republicans some credit at least they were able to see through this and realized that year with re-evaluation the taxpayers could not afford to be screwed again.

Anonymous said...

At some point this blog stopped being useful and has become a joke. No one wants to hear all of the attacking etc. that goes on here. It is no longer a sharing of ideas and no longer useful.

Anonymous said...

You can say that the tone this fall has been clean and respectful without a lot of attacking, which no one wants.

Anonymous said...

Taxes are not low and we have been OVERTAXED. When is someone that is running for office going to say it and have a plan on what they will do to make sure this does not continue if elected. That's the person I will vote for... D,R U, or I doesn't matter to me.

Anonymous said...

Anon 10:20 Nobody said spend everything. Why keep crying "wolf "all the time? All should be honest with the public.

Anonymous said...

pj 9:58 Thank you for your honest explanation. I attended most if not all of the boe budget meetings and there weren't any dems from the council and hardly any people from the public (just the usual small handful) in attendance. Most have no clue how the numbers are juggled around..thanks for helping to clarify.

Now what in blazes is going on here!
There are no ads in the Herald for the republicans!
It seems like they have given up!
Maybe they should with that lineup!
I am going to vote for line B

Anonymous said...

Gee, Cindy Kleist writes well for someone who seriously injured in an accident last night. It seems reports of her demise in this thread of comments were premature.
Now that the champion of the poor and the oppressed has recovered (insert your own level of sarcasm here) perhaps she would be willing to own up to her anonymous letter writing habits and other types of harassing activity (like late night phone calls to public officials she doesn't agree with). This is someone we want in town government?

Anonymous said...

Anon6:34 There is an ad by a republican in the CH. If everyone based their vote on the amount of ads in the CH we will be in serious trouble.

Anonymous said...

I wonder if some Republicans simply want to spare their money and speak more effectively to the residents of Cheshire. They have been at the supermarkets, walking the neighborhoods and seen on cable access introducing their candidates.

The Herald has slammed them pretty hard on their editorial pages for the last several years not to mention their guilty as charged by ESty/Hall approach with Carolyn Soltis.

Ad money rewards them for that behavior.

8:40AM BITTER REMARKS! You have to be kidding. All I've been reading from the pro Dems is name calling and bitter remarks. If you take out the dirt throwing remarks there wouldn't be any. I'm an independent voter but I have to say the Dems aren't looking very good when they get nasty all the time. As far as the North End is concerned I feel we should have a little more oversight into this plan before we jump in feet first. If the Republicans agree what's wrong with that.

Anonymous said...

"Taxes are not low and we have been OVERTAXED."

Taxes are outrageous and the Dems have only added to the problem.

Once the W/S mall and apartments are up many of us will have to move.

The developers run the Dems and the Dems serve the developers.

Anonymous said...

taxes went up very little in cheshire over the last two budget years
lower than when the rep were in power even in the non zero year
Sorry dave you have no tuna tonight

Anonymous said...

With the surplus that we now have taxes shouldn't have gone up at all in the past two years. To be honest the only reason we are in good shape now is because the council in the past watched their spending. I hate the Republicans nationally but as far as local is concerned I think its more the individual than the party.

"Schrumm/Orsini budget of 0 increase"?

Fact is White and Dill wanted to give the BOE less than 0 because of revaluation. Schrumm, Orsini and Carroll were willing to give a reasonable increase but needed 2 more votes to pass a budget. Orsini went to minority leader (at the time) Hall seeking a compromise to get 2 more votes to pass a budget but Hall turned him down.

"Schrumm/Orsini budget of 0 increase"? Fair enough. But the alternatives were White/Dill budget of less than 0 or another Hall/Ecke/Visconti budget well above inflation.

At least White/Dill we're willing to compromise up to 0. If Hall/Ecke were willing to compromise down then the BOE could have received more. But that's not how the game is played now, is it?

Now you “adults” can go back to your silly, immature, and petty politics. You all make Cheshire proud, and keep up the good work!
