Campaign finance reports

Today was the deadline for reporting campaign finances through September 30. For me, I spoke with the State Elections Enforcement Commission and they told me (in a nutshell) that since I neither raised nor spent more than $1,000, I didn't have to file anything.... that was nice to hear.

It would be interesting to see what others raised though... and to see who is giving to whom. And if any of you are interested in doing your own research on this... don't forget to check the Town Committee reports... I'm guessing those are the only PACs (if you can call them that) that exist in Cheshire... though there may be more.

No one raised any money? Thank God we don't have to read endless attack ads.

"no money donated to the candidates from any of the developers"

Ha, Ha, Ha. There are hundreds of ways to pass the envelope.

The developers run this town.

Gee willikers my stars alive I would be shocked if that happened?

Tim, Can you tell us what if anything the council intends on doing about the person accused of stealing/removing campaign signs? I heard this brought up at Tuesday's council meeting and was surprised the council had no comments. I think the police should investigate.

No money should be spent for campaigning. That money could be used in much better ways.

So elected officials get to volunteer for free, take heeps of criticism and little praise and get virtually no respect. And now we can't ask a supporter for a contribution...which has to be reported anyway. What are we to do...have only the wealthy represent us?

50 signs cost $350. One 3 col x 7" (21") ad in the Herald - $200. Editorials are free - if published. Palmcards - $200. Cable access channal 15 - no charge...not everyone get cox cable. Those colorful pads - $500.

I think candidates must be crazy but thank God the town has them. They help support your cynical habits.

Congratulations to the Cheshire High School girls swim team. Tonight they set a national record with their 235th consecutive victory. Their last loss was in 1986. I bet most of you were talking about the same crap twenty-one years ago.

Now you “adults” can go back to your silly, immature, and petty politics. You all make Cheshire proud, and keep up the good work!
