Hayley's Hope & Michaela's Miracle
I just received this email from a friend on the Human Services Committee...
The mission of Cheshire's Lights of Hope is to come together as a community, honor the Petit Family, and raise funds to end the devastating effects of multiple sclerosis by selling luminaries to light our town and neighborhoods with Hope on December 16th, 2007.
Cheshire's Lights of Hope believes selling these luminaries to light the streets of Cheshire will be an opportunity for neighbors and businesses alike to rally together and raise important funds to benefit Hayley's Hope & Michaela's Miracle Memorial Fund, a locally-restricted fund established by the Petit family to assist Connecticut residents battling MS.
Here's the website: Cheshires Lights of Hope

Just a thought...but wouldn't it be nice if part of the funds could go to the Winiarski boys, who also suffered a terrible loss of both parents and their sister this year through violence? It seems that except for a few people who have organized a golf tournament, the town has not rallied to support those two young men to the same extent. Granted the circumstances were different, but these boys, just 12 and 14 at the time, were blameless. They need lights of hope, too.
Great idea, it seems people forgot that event.
Read the letter to the editor in the Herald from October 18. You will see that this is to unite Cheshire and bring Hope to this town. It is not focused on the Petit tragedy specifically. The money is going to the MS Society because the organizers have been major supporters of the MS Walk in Cheshire, as was Hayley and Michaela. The thought is to hope for a better Cheshire. Not to forget the Petits or the Winiarskis. Hope for anything...but come out on the 16th and join your neighbor in unity for a better Cheshire. The committee has worked hard to stress this, but many still focus on one thing.
Perhaps those who would like to raise money for the others should put together a fundraiser and I am sure they will get people to support them. This is a great town with generous people.
