Some political advertising

For keepsakes... here is some of the literature that was distributed during the campaign... thought you might be interested... this is just some Dem stuff... I'll see if I can find some of the GOP stuff, but I've got stacks of paper scattered about right now and need to tidy up a bit. Until then... here is some stuff on the Council (enlarge images by clicking on them):Here are some claims made by the PZC candidates:Here is some BOE literature:And finally, here is some general Democratic info:

Feel free to parse! I think some of this stuff is quite fair, but some... well... I'm still wondering how one claims that increasing our bond rating to AA is "fiscally responsible," if you don't have a cost/benefit analysis.

And while all of these things were mentioned during the campaign... did anyone notice the absence of discussion of the Senior Tax Freeze? Don't politicians usually talk of their accomplishments? hmmm....

Regarding that last flyer that states - "Encouraged civility, respect & public input. Worked cooperatively with Republicans including reappointing more minority party members to boards and commissions."
"Fostered a culture of civility & respect."

Are the Dems for real? They must be joking. The way Esty & Hall dragged Soltis' name through the mud was disgraceful. They showed NO respect for her or Slocum. Then when they realized they were totally off base with their accusations, they still didn't reappoint Pelton as they said they would. Their half hearted apologies were a joke too. If Esty was running as an "at large" candidate, I doubt she would have been reelected. Maybe this time around Hall will lay off the comedian act and actually take things more seriously.

Patti, "broadened the options for the interchange zone while ensuring tight control over future developement."

Malls, hotels, mega-theaters... that's pretty broad. How much looser can we get? Maybe we can attract an oil refinery or a horse track.

How about halfway houses for sex offenders?

If Tim is correect and 39% turned out to vote 61% don't give a flying cupcake.

It makes me want to see 4 mega malls....now that will get some attention.

If you don't vote don't whine. I'd like to see that on a big sign in the center of town.

Wow I think that a horse track would be great!

Patti, "broadened the options for the interchange zone while ensuring tight control over future developement."

She broadened the options for the the developers, she knows it, and the developers love her. She was and still is instrumental in promoting the interests of the "Good Old Boys" over the residents of Cheshire. She and she alone is responible, as she could have run the P&Z meetings to protect the town, instead she choose to stifle questions seeking the truth and steered the vote in their favor.

Hope she's happy when they flood our schools and raise our taxes.

Tim - Where are the Republican flyers? Maybe you should point out that they were filled with lies and ommissions? How about the lies that Simma spread about needing a new school? Tim you are way off base with this, but what else is new?

Also please explain exactly how one would go about doing a cost/benefit on the fund balance. Now, as a CPA this should be for easy for you to do.

Where are the Republican flyers?

As I said, they weren't handy last night. I need to clean up a bit.

Maybe you should point out that they were filled with lies and ommissions?

huh? Are you suggesting that these flyers are filled with lies and omissions?

Tim you are way off base with this, but what else is new?

What is offbase? All I did was post information that was being given to the voters... and add one piece of commentary about the rainy day fund.

Also please explain exactly how one would go about doing a cost/benefit on the fund balance. Now, as a CPA this should be for easy for you to do.

Option 1

Cost: $2,000,000 tax increase
Benefit: $30,000-$50,000 in spending decrease

Option 2

Cost: $5,500 tax increase
Benefit: $30,000-$50,000 in spending decrease

But I'm a member of the Council. It really should be done by staff. They must have much more knowledge on this than I do. That's why I asked the Council to direct staff to do it.

Personally, I think it's a common sense question to ask... and when I initially broached the subject, I received verbal support from both Dave Schrumm and Elizabeth Esty... so they must've thought the idea has merit.

"How about the lies that Simma spread about needing a new school?"

What about the big lie that the NE development will produce a large net positive tax benefit. How about their lie that the expected number of students is only 11.

There will be at least 150 more children from the mall apartments. Then you can add another few hundred once the local boys develop the other 3 quadrants. And, on top of that, add a lot more as a result of the change to the Town Plan of Conservation and Development that allows for residential in all commercial zones, like the Bowman property across from St Bridgets or even the current Post Office property could become residential once the P.O moves.

Perhaps they will build a high rise apartment where the old PO office is and across from St Bridgets?!?
Are you for real or was that (hopefully) a joke?
Seems to me nothing more then a whole lot of scare tactics. Are you suggesting that W/S means that development will be allowed there? Are you suggesting families are suddenly going to move in there?
We need to all back off from the paranoia and look at this with a little dose of reality and common sense!

The republican literature was not handy and yet you had democratic information at your fingertips? Isn't that a bit of irony for you! I suppose you must have asked a kindly democratic neighbor for it and just kept it handy to refer to! I am, however, surprised that you did not have your own literature from your own campaigning within easy grasp.

hahaha anonymous 12:51. You're just upset because Tim won. You are a sore LOOOOOOOOSER!

11:11 and 12:51...

You seem very concerned about me posting this Dem stuff that seemed completely unremarkable to me. But now I'm thinking that when I get some time, I really ought to go back and read this stuff.

"look at this with a little dose of reality and common sense!"

That is the reality. The change to the Town Plan of Conservation and Development will allow easy zone changes to allow residential in all the commercial zones.

You know that it is true, but since you are either a developer or feed off of them, it is understandable that you attack reality and those that point out the truth.

So, it may well be possible to go postal by getting your address at the post office, or simply get up in your garden apartment and skip across the street to St Bridgets.

Retail sales are down. One P&Z member raised that question and he didn't run for office. That was sad because he is the only one that was asking good questions. Everyone better wake up. Oil is going up every day and people will cut back on guess what?

Canton First Selectman that supported W/S Loses

Remember Mary Tomolonius in the W/S promotional video that was shown all over town. She went out of her way to promote W/S and how terrific they were. Well a lot of people in Canton were not pleased about her using her position as First Selectman of Canton to help W/S and also help them promote their project in Cheshire.

So, the people of Canton voted in the first Republican selectman in 22 years in a town that has more Democrats than Republicans. The interesting thing is that the W/S mall in Canton does not have a residential component that would greatly impact the the school budget.

Richard Barlow (R) 54% defeats Mary Tomolonius (D), 46%

Tim White said...

I saw that Tomolonius had lost, but didn't know that Canton has more registered Ds than Rs.

What were the issues? Was the mall part of it?
