Turf meeting on Tuesday

With the turf meeting scheduled for Tuesday November 17, I couldn't help but notice something.

At last Tuesday's meeting, the Personnel Chair made it clear that the PD issues should be delayed until the new Council takes office on Sunday, December 6. And since the Budget Chair was at the PD meeting, I presume he agreed with the Personnel Chair that the PD issues should be delayed.

But obviously the Budget Chair feels that the turf cannot wait until the new Council.

Does that suggest the Budget Chair feels the turf is a higher priority than the PD issues?

We really should re-look at the charter and change it so once the election takes place, the newly elected get sworn into office within a week so things like this don't happen.

I recall hearing from many of the turf proponents (now known as the minority)that we need to allow the Turf Committee to do their job and present all the costs that go into installing to the BOE before we turn it down. They weren't ready at that time. That was just a month ago. Now they want to rush?

Tim, can you filibuster for 3 weeks?

haha... I see no compelling reason to act on anything related to the turf on Tuesday. For me the critical questions are probably legal.

Regardless, I wanna see how it goes on Tuesday.

Altieri and Ecke think PD issues should be delayed until the next council, but that the turf should be rammed through by this lame duck council (even though the BoE 'study' is not completed).

Who says these two don't want transparency in government? Their self-serving hypocrisy is about as transparent and shameless as it gets.

I noticed that several towns including Southington swear in their new council members almost as soon as the election is over. I guess Cheshire better look seriously at this practice.

Too bad our council cannot change our charter without a referendum. The town residents need to vote to give the council power to modify it.

Can you imagine if the lame Dem council had the power to change the charter without voter approval?! God only knows what they'd try to do. No, voter approval should be required for any charter change. However, the next council should look seriously at shortening the period between election and when the new councilors take office.

if the Dem council could change the charter without approval of voters, they might declare Altieri and Ecke Emperor and Empress-for-life.

The Boe agenda just came out...there's no mention of the turf study report being made. I guess the council thinks they can just do their own thing and vote it through.

Have you found out, Tim, if it's going to be televised tomorrow night?

Don't know how the TC can vote something through that effects the BOE's budget without the BOE approving it first. Voting through the turf would be no different than the TC voting to install carpeting or A/C in the schools. If the BOE hasn't requested it or approved it by their own vote, the TC shouldn't go ahead and vote it through.

If the TC does vote it through the vote should be declared "null and void" by the new BOE & new TC.

The solution seems obvious to me: Ecke and Altieri obviously have a conflict of interest on this issue under the Town Charter. Tim, read it and call them on it. Read it out loud at the meeting so all can hear you.

This will allow a voting tally difference.

The Council Dems. are totally unethical bringing the turf report before the council before it has been approved and recommended by the board of ed. The money was accepted by the council for the B of E. The money was to be used for HS recreational expenditure including the turf. It is up to the B of E to decide how the expenditure is made. If Sheldon Dill votes for this; the chamber members should step up their efforts to replace him.

If this were to be put on the agenda, the R's should stay home and deny a quorum.

Dill lost the election because CC members voted against him. His support for the W/S mall over the objections of local businesses entered into his defeat.
