ND stirs people to action

There's a petition being signed at Stop n Shop today. It's in support of the northend development. I wasn't there myself (someone called me), so didn't see the wording. But I was told that there were LINES of people waiting to sign it... I've seen people with petitions at Stop n Shop before, but I don't think I've ever seen lines form.

I also understand that people are dropping literature (in opposition to the ND) on mailboxes today.

Expect the March 12 meeting to be overflowing with people. And if you want to speak, get there early. You'll need to sign up to speak.

Tim White
Town Council, 4th District

p.s. I'm playing around with blogger and inadvertently removed the ability to comment on today's posts. Hopefully, all future posts will allow for comments. Sorry about that.

good to have a discussion BEFORE decisions are made.

wish we did that wiht the WHITE ELEPHANT

I disagree. If we had a discussion about the pool, it wouldn ot have passed.

Thanks to Schrumm and Osini, there was not discussion and we got a wonderful facility.

I signed the petition today and you are right Tim there were dozens of people signing. Also there were citizens there explaining what the project is all about. There is real momentum now and I don't think the anti crowd (all 4 of them) can stop the public support that this project has got going for it.

We must stop this project, it will destroy our town. Cheshire will never be the same. It is all of the new people that want this, it will cost money and waste our last open space for development...

We must have this project. It is a great project..... We can all benefit from this project..... There is no reason to reject this project..... It will increast our tax base and will not burden our services...Only the CAVE men of Cheshire don't want it...

Is the Cheshire Republican Party becoming CAVE men?

Is seems as if many GOP officials in Cheshire can be defined as CAVE men – Citizens Against Virtually Everything.

CAVE men rule, they are saving out town.

I guess we can call the democratic party CAVE men too.
Citizens Amassing Voluminous Expenses

After hearing all about how terrible the shoppes at Canton were I took a ride up there last week, and found to my amazement that they were very beautiful and did not seem to be out of touch with canton or what we would expect in Cheshire. Alot of fuss and feathers about nothing. As a near senior citizen in this town it seems to me that we should let this project come to Cheshire or something like it, good for all.

So now the supporters are using the same tactics started by the education supportors, get signatures, buy T-shirts and show up at a Town meeting. Wonder how many of the children will stand up and say the Northend development is good thing?

Petitins are fine when thye are for somehting that costs money or something we think we need. Petitions for Senior Tax credit are not because any change in that program may cause the Town to lose money.

Remember the hearing on the 12th is for the text change in the zoning for the entire north end. When and if the zoning is changed and how it is changed if at all then comes the shopping center.

I am going to have buttons and tee shirts and flyers ready for the meeting on the 12th. I will be handing them out before the meeting so if you want one meet me behind town hall and you can get one for free!!!!!!!!!

...I am curious why you are so psyched about this? Do you like to shop and would like someplace more convenient or do you see the mill rate in town decreasing from all the tax revenue? If its the tax revenue..how much are we going to recv and how long will it take for us to break even from the expenses that the town will have from increasing services, road repairs etc....I'm not realy for or against this but it seems like people think this is going to solve all financial problems for the town and as far as I know...we dont even know exactly what is going in therE SO i'M NOT SURE HOW ANYONE CAN SAY RIGHT NOW THAT THERE WILL BE AN IMMEDIATE BENEFIT OR WHAT IT MAY BE>>>>>>>>

Watch the WPCA Schrumm is trying to use them as his last resort to kill this project.

2:39 How would Dave Schrumm "use" the WPCA to "kill this project?"

I thought WPCA has a dem majority now? If so, that seems highly unlikely.

(btw, I checked the town website and it is outdated. So I'm not even certain of the WPCA membership at this point.)

He will do anything to stop this project Tim you know that.

And, Tim, you should also already know that there seems to be a group of people determined to undermine Mr. Schrumm, perhaps even trying to speak for him. Just look at some of their crazy, angry, cave man comments.
It's a sad state of affairs that when people try actually doing the homework and pointing out all possibilities, there are always those who have no clue trying to ridicule them.

Thanks Dave, are you doing homework or just lying?

No wonder so many elected Cheshire Republicans are quickly being called CAVE men – Citizens Against Virtually Everything.

They consistently complain about fire department appropriations, youth sports, development, and public school spending.

These CAVE men will surprise you sometimes. They always vote to spend more for the town pool - how about almost a half a million dollars in the last twelve months just to subsidize the pool. Oh yes, don’t forget the million dollars they wanted for Linear Park.

After reading all of the comments posted, I've lost sight of the original question. I thought this blog was for the purpose of voicing pros and cons for the proposed development in the North End. It seems it's only a forum for mud slinging and name calling. I really think we should shop acting like spoiled brats instead of adults and have a realistic debate.

I agree we need to have real discussion. Come to P&Z on Monday hear the propsed changes and express you feelings.

They plan to build housing next to the mall. What kind of life style is it going to be for children living next to a 500,000 sq ft mall. Quite a playground for them. Would you want your kid growing up in that environment. It just seems like there are a lot of things to get into trouble.

Support for this disaster has been a joke. If you take away the people who will make money on it from the petition and the March 12 meeting, there are few left.

People waitng in line to sign the petition, ha, ha, ha. The line would have been longer, but all the Calcagni sales people couldn't make it and not all of them went to sign the petition.

At the next meeting, in addition to the buttons, tee shirts and clapping, they'll probably have cheerleaders and pass out horns.
