Cheshire will soon be getting a new church at 174 East Johnson (WRA, by Lauresha Xhihani).

This WRA editorial tattoos John Edwards. Personally, I'd prefer to see the Democratic party nominate Gov. Bill Richardson... or even (although I know very little about him) Mike Gravel. If you're interested in Richardson, he'll be on Meet the Press tomorrow morning.

The CT sales tax exemption on clothing under $50 may disappear. I'm not sure how strongly this would adversely impact those least able to afford the sales tax. But to some degree this would hit poor people, unfortunately.

Barite mines are back in the news. Although I didn't get to testify back in January, I did go to the legislature that day to testify because they are an important issue.

Calcagni's linear trail crosswalk signs went up this week (at least on Mt. Sanford).

If you get HBO, Ron Paul, M.D. was on Bill Maher's show last night. So I'm sure it's now available on On Demand.

What else is happening?

  5. Did Tristar, Calcagni and Bowman ever sign the agreement that was suppose to protect the town from any expenses in repairing their tunnel on the proprty they are selling to W/S? All the money is suppose to come from state and federal taxpayers?

  10. Who do you think this fool is?

  11. He's about 14 years old - probably a freshman at CHS - a little odd....

  12. No, he is probably a junior at Sheehan High School...

  13. Are we really building a church in the North End? Is that a good use of the property? NO TAX REVENUE?

  14. Somehow I doubt this person writing the horrible rhymes is a high school student. No student would stick with something this long. Sure the spelling might seem like a juvenile's but I think the person just wants you to think they're young and stupid. It's likely a cover up just to throw you off.

If the zone text allows it (ie; a church--such as mixed use), you have to let them build it...so be careful about changing zone text. Also, I believe churches fall into the PILOT program and the state reimburses the town for the lost tax revenue--not only for prisons but for higher education, churches, and hospitals (which is why Elim Park is tax exempt and can afford to give monetary donations to the police, etc). If they didn't, no town would ever allow a church to be built. Unfortunately, the state reimbursement rate keeps falling.

  17. Pilot programs do not include churches.
